As liaison between the parties on so many projects, Amy enjoys a unique perspective on the dynamics of successful design and building which she shares on CNN's Open House Program.

Steve PitkinSteve Pitkin, General Contractor
Since 1968, Steve has worked at all levels of the construction industry from laborer to project manager. He has a wealth of technical knowledge from building single family homes to multimillion dollar commercial buildings. Steve also consults for owners, other general contractors and developers, specializing in cost estimating, plan review and contract dispute resolution.

Together Amy and Steve will take you through all phases of your building project and give you an inside glimpse at the two, sometimes conflicting, viewpoints of owner and general contractor. At the AVOIDING THE MONEY PIT seminar, you will have a lot of fun and leave wondering how anyone could undertake a building project without this training.

How it all began
Seminar photo, avoiding the money pit, general contractor, construction, buildingWhile supervising construction projects Amy saw a pattern emerge. When she told people what she did for work, many launched into passionate accounts of their home construction horror stories. Amy thought, 'There's got to be a better way these people can get through their building projects with their finances, their marriages and their new homes in tact. If they knew 10% of what the pros know, they could avoid 90% of the problems.' She offered the first AVOIDING THE MONEY PIT seminar in 1995 to great reviews. (CLICK HERE for the Judge's story)

In 1996, Steve Pitkin, a general contractor joined in the training. With both an owner's representative and a general contractor presenting the seminar, the difference in how people grasp the information is remarkable. Instead of the hearing about owner/contractor relations, they witness them and see a model for their own role as owners. Steve Pitkin is now a permanent fixture and co-presenter of AVOIDING THE MONEY PIT SEMINARS.
